Gold Nugget Farms

Well I am finally getting pictures up here from the produce farm I am working at. It has been really busy lately with harvest, rain, getting the last few trans plantings done, rain, a never ending string of new help and more rain. But things are going good and we are staying busy.

So this is a view of the farm early in the season and the view of the mountains from the field. What a view huh! So this post is going to be mostly about the equipment that is used at this farm. I don't have harvest pictures yet but I will get them up soon I am hope.

So this first one is the fertilizer spreader, of course this is the first step.

After the fertilizer is spread the ground is rotor-tilled with this giant sized rototiller.


Then each "bed" is roller packed. The tractor has GPS hooked up but getting the thing to work isn't always easy, so getting the beds straight is left to good old fashioned driving.

And this is the transplantor. More on this on a different post.

Once the crops are in they need culivated and this is the machine for that job.

Caution-Watch for Crossings

Well it is that time of year here in Alaska....not only do we have to be aware of the big moose, but the small (well not really) baby moose that are beginning to appear straggling behind their mothers.

This set of twins (twins is very common to see) we saw just up the road from our house, so we are sure they are residents of our neighborhood.

Alaska Aviation Heritage Museum

Here are some pictures of when we went to the Alaska Aviation Heritage Museum. It was a cool rainy day so we found something to do that was inside. Most of this museum was indoors, but we sure had fun and saw some really cool things.

Here is Tate by a plane float made out of mahogany and brass tacks. It was very cool!

And this is a small viewing of the large variety of plane skis.

It was a very fun and interesting museum. We recommend seeing it if you get the chance.

Fishing

Don't they look so excited to be fishing!

And waiting for the catch to come in.

This one was a tiny trout, but it was still good eating.



And the next time we went fishing, a much larger trout was caught!

This pair of loons sure chat it up. And they don't seem too scared, have come quite close to the boat.

Watch out for landing aircraft!

These are the giant lily pads that are all over the lake.

And the water is so clear! We can see to the bottom even in the deep parts of the lake.

The Butte

The few weekends ago we went hiking. It was a gorgeous day and we really enjoyed the views.

We made it to the top!

In this picture you can acutally see the fields of the farm where I work. The green rows are all lettuce, cabbage and broccoli but the darker rows would be red leaf lettuce.

The trip down, it was a much different path than the one we took up.

July 4th Weekend Camping

Well the weekend was great, but it sure was WET!! I think the only dry time was the first 1-2 hours after we arrived and set up our tent. But nothing like enjoying a good camp fire to stay warm.

And camping wouldn't be complete without a good messy S'More!

This little family was enjoying the rain.

Earthquake

So we had an earthquake last night. Actually this isn't the first one we have had, but it is the first one we have felt. Eric and I were in the house and it felt like someone ran into the house with a vehicle. Everything shook just for a few seconds, but felt kind of weird. Tater was outside and comes in the house saying, "Did you feel that? Everything on the deck was shaking!" So that was our excitement last night. Check out below the statistics we found on it.
