Glaciers and Wildlife

So we took a day cruise this past weekend.  We were able to see some spectacular views and events that few get to experience, especially to up-close and in person.  Tate is standing in front of the catamaran that we took this cruise on.

We were able to catch a large chunk of glacier calve.

And it really made a wave.

The weather was a little cool, but we were dressed appropriately and enjoyed our time.

One of the best things was being able see a humpback whale so up close.  We actually got to see two different ones, and it was very cool to be so close.

Not only were the glaciers and the wildlife amazing, but so were the views.

We also saw many icebergs floating around.  The closer to a glacier we got the more ice that appeared.

Gone Fishin

So the boys have been itching to get out and go fishing, it was just a matter of waiting for all the ice to melt. So this weekend we finally made it out to the lake.  The evening didn't start out too good, but it ended up being very exciting.  First catch was a tiny little rainbow, but after that it was a fight!

Tater helps land the first catch into the boat, a little weary of falling overboard, but he got it figured out soon enough.

The first Artic Char for 2011.

Tate didn't have to wait long and he was really fighting to hang onto his pole.  If you can see from his face, he is really putting his all into getting this fish to the boat.

And he finally landed it!

Was a really big fish, the biggest one Tate has caught, and he was super excited.

As the boys called it, we sure hit the honey hole.

Tate was getting the hang of the net while he wasn't catching his own fish.

Tate's last catch of the day.  This one was a just as big if not bigger, but he was alot more wiggly and hard to hang onto with all the fish slime.

But the evening ended good and we finally loaded up at 9 to head home.

New Project

The beginning stages of remodeling the chicken coop.
Laying insulation in the floor.

Then placing the new floor down.

Making sure it is securely in place.

Painting the floor so it feels like home.

And all this work was done to make the new additions feel welcome.

Plucked from their home and brought to this new place to live.

Making sure everyone is getting comfortable in their new home.

We brought home 25 Cornish X, now approximately 2 weeks old.

More posts to come as it gets closer to freezer time.
We will also be getting our layers in a few weeks.

Pinewood Derby

Tate entered his Pinewood Derby car in the Pack race two weeks ago.  The theme category that Tate chose was, "Outdoors."  He wanted to decorate his car like a road, because roads are outdoors. So this is the finished product, all checked-in and ready to race.

This is the long track that the speedsters will drive.

Get ready. . . . Set. . . . GO!!!

And the third place Tiger Cub winner is. . . ."Road" and the driver/pit crew member Tater!!

Congratulations to all the Tiger Cubs!

Last weekend, the top three winners got to compete in the Valley Wide Derby.  This is the competition, all Tiger Cubs in the Valley.  Everyone had a great time and showed great sportsmanship.

The  Boy Scout Troops in the Valley were also putting on fun activities outside.  Tate got to try out the Boy Scout version of a ferris wheel.  He is the one at the very top!

He was kind of nervouse waiting in line, but once he was in flight, he sure had a big grin on his face!

Easter

Happy Easter everyone!

Tate enjoyed dying some easter eggs. . .

. . .and hunting (racing) to get a bucket full of eggs.  He was also given a scavenger hunt that tested his memory of objects around the house.  And he found the pot of gold at the end.

. . .and even Ellie enjoyed opening presents.

Hockey has come to an End

Well the end of the year hockey tournament has come and gone.  It was a great learning season for the whole team.  Over half of the team were first year skaters so they all learned together and had a great time becoming friends.  The kids had a short bench but that meant extra playing time for all, but everyone was sure tired at the end of each game.

GO EAGLES!!
